the blog

i love reading books. i love being engrossed in a book so much that i neglect everything else. and like all things, i can blame this on my mother.
for a while now, i've been documenting [most of the time] the books i've been reading and adding the minute details about them on librarything.
but now, i realize that maybe the story is not all there is to a book. as a college/university student, i've been forced to write essays and learn to look at literature critically.
what makes a book stand out from all the rest? what makes it like others? and why should someone read it? is it just merely entertaining... or is there something more...
this blog will feature book reviews and essays on them.

a disclaimer
this blog will feature reviews that are offer a very biased view: the reviews will all be positive (or at least, i will try to make them positive).
i've always found that i view books very differently from other people and reviewers. i think that every book is incredible and that someone took the time to read it and decide that it was worth enough to publish... therefore there must be a reason why the book was published over all the other manuscripts hogging a publisher's desk.
i am also sick of reading reviews that give their "reasons" for why a book is not good without really understanding why it should be good.
plus, i've read way too many essays by literary essayists, scholars, and professors basically squabbling over the fact that their author's work is way better than the other guy's with arguments like "mine's better because i say so". so in my essays and reviews, i will try to come from a happier place than from a dark depressing era.

{however, if i do give a negative review, i will mention why. usually, the negative aspects will be due to bad grammar/punctuation and poor organization... and trust me this is rare.}

i would prefer it if readers do not use these essays in their school work. i'm not the smartest person in the world and do make a lot of mistakes and sometimes assumptions. these are my ideas and i realize that sometimes i do not make the right connections.
however, if you are going to QUOTE or use any of the essays, please use proper citation. please don't plagiarize (not only is it bad, but can get a student expelled). instead, paraphrase AND cite what you use. if perchance you do not know how to cite a source or are confused about citations, please use this generator.
all essays on this site are done in the mla format.
(if you notice that they do not appear to be in the mla format, please remember that formatting rules do change over time, so my citation might be a bit outdated.. i do apologize for that.)
